First founded as the American Pharmaceutical Association in 1852, APhA was the first national professional organization of pharmacists. Since its establishment, APhA has become the largest association of pharmacists in the United States.

Representing more than 60,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and others interested in advancing the profession, APhA continues to lead the profession of pharmacy through legislation, project initiatives, student awareness, and patient education.

APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) is the formal student section of APhA and the nation’s professional society of pharmacists. More than 30,000 student pharmacists from each of the 113 schools of pharmacy nationwide are member s of APhA-ASP. It is the largest student pharmacy organization nationwide.

The mission of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) is to be the collective voice of student pharmacists, to provide opportunities for professional growth, to improve patient care, and to envision and advance the future of pharmacy.

APhA-ASP is the official organization representing the United States in the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF). IPSF is a worldwide federation of student pharmacist organizations that represents over 350,000 pharmacy students and recent graduates in 70 countries worldwide. The goal of IPSF is to improve the pharmacy profession by encouraging involvement of worldwide pharmaceutical associations. All members of APhA-ASP receive membership to IPSF.
